What does a Portuguese employee earn?
Employees currently receive (and also received in the past) a basic net wage of approximately €1650 per month (after deduction of amounts withheld) on the basis of an average of 48 working hours per week over a period of 16 weeks, in accordance with the provisions of the Working Hours Act (Arbeidstijdenwet). As a proportion of the overtime hours are worked at weekends, the final wages paid per month are generally a few hundred euros more. This salary is equivalent to approximately €45,000 gross per annual (after deduction of amounts withheld). This is approximately 1.5 times the Dutch modal income. As was the case last year, the majority of the Portuguese employees returned after the Christmas holidays. The 50 Portuguese employees include 16 newcomers. There are expected to be around 80 people employed via Rimec in mid-2014 in order to meet the peak demands of the work.
